Donald Ray Springfield, 76, son of the late Waymon and Una (Crass) Springfield, was born on May 2, 1935 in Colorado City, Texas, and passed away February 6, 2012, at his home in Thayer, MO, at the age of 76 years. Donnie married the love of his life, Virginia Goodwin Springfield, on December 25, 1957, and they shared 54 years of love and laughter. Donnie is survived by his wife, Virginia, a daughter, Jo Beth Kent of Springfield, MO, a son, Jimmy Springfield and his wife Wanda of Desoto, MO, a granddaughter, Bethany Kent-Hall and her husband Jeff Hall of Nashville, TN, a grandson, Billy Springfield of Desoto, MO, and the light of his life, a great grandson, Yorick Donald John Hall of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert Springfield and his wife Faye of Franklin, VA and Johnny Springfield and his wife Barbara of Canton, TX, one sister, Diane (Springfield) Borutta and her husband Bill of Lake Ozarks, MO, a brother- and sister-in-law, James and Carolyn (Goodwin) Looney of West Plains, MO, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donnie was a proud veteran who served his country in the Army from 1955-1957. He worked as a locomotive engineer for Burlington Northern and retired after 45 years on the job. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a charter member of Alton-Thayer Elks Lodge. Over the years, he greatly enjoyed the volunteer service that came with membership to each. Donnie never met a stranger and loved to entertain his friends and family with jokes and stories. He enjoyed hunting, crossword puzzles, sports, and drinking coffee with his friends. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Clary Funeral Home, Thayer, MO, with Bro. Bill Bales officiating. Burial will occur in the Thayer Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 8, 2012, from 6-8:00 pm at the Clary Funeral Home.
