Margaret " Lois " Cates, age 94 of Alton, MO finished her journey here on earth at Brook Haven Health Care on January 2, 2010

She was born July 4, 1915, to Jodie Hollis and Eva Neal Hollis Wheeler. On July 14, 1929, she was married to Corwin Oglesby (C.O) Cates and to this union four children were born. Survivors include her daughter Helen Holmes of Alton, Mo, two daughters-in-law Joyce Cates and Nancy Cates of Alton, Mo. Grandchildren Tim Cates and wife Linda Gail of West Plains, Mo. Kathy Johnson and husband Craig of Alton, Mo. Bill Cates and wife Linda Sue of Thomasville, Mo. Judy Holmes of Thayer, Mo. Regina Barton and husband Greg of Alton, Mo. Jeff Cates and wife Sondra of Canyon, Tx. Great-grand children, Brian Holmes and wife Jeremy of Mtn. View, Ar. Eric Holmes and wife Amanda of Ozark, Mo. Brad Johnson and wife Angela of West Plains, Mo. Allison Roberts and husband Bobby of West Plains, Mo. Erin Melby and husband Heath of Willow Springs, Mo. Jon Barton and wife Amber of St. Louis, Mo. Whitney Chadwick and husband Chase of Cooper, Tx. Alyssa Cates of Canyon, Tx. Stephanie Cates of Peace Valley, Mo. Brittany Cates of West Plains, Mo. Jared Cates of West Plains, Mo. Michelle Simms and husband Ronnie of Thayer, Mo. Allen Jones and wife Jessica of Mammoth Spring, Ar. Great-great-grandchildren, Savanna Holmes, Gavin and Grady Holmes, Cassie, Cory, Carter and Camden Roberts, Ryan and Avery Johnson, Jadeyn and Jasper Melby, Kacey and Austyn Simms, Dagen and Halo Jones. One sister, Joyce Barton, two half sisters, Betty Crabtree and Jettie Sisco, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jodie Hollis and Eva Wheeler, her husband, C.O.Cates, two sons, Herman and Hosea Cates, son-in-law, Billy Holmes, grandson, Van Holmes and one infant daughter, Lois Fern.

She lived alone the last 36 years and would always say " I am ready to go be with my loved ones, but am not in any hurry for this journey to come to an end." She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was a long time member of The United Baptist Church of Alton.

Services will be 11:00AM Monday, January 4, 2010 at the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO with Bro, Charles Trantham officiating. Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery.
