Uel Sherman Tusher, 81, West Plains, formerly of Alton, Mo., passed away on November 8, 2009 at Ozarks Medical Center. Son of the late Uel Tusher and Agnes (Crews) Tusher. He was born on November 11, 1927 in St. Louis, Mo. Sherman and Etta Mae Adams were united in marriage September 5, 1947 in Paragould, Arkansas and had celebrated 62 years together.

Survivors include: Children Charlotte R. (Becky) and husband Hal Dolby; Doretta Dean and husband Tom Nelson; Uel Stanley and wife Cindy (Sheets); Michael Arthur; and Nina Marie Newcity. Grandchildren Carrie (Nelson) Bullard, husband Chan, and children Sydney, Tucker, and Ila; Jennifer Nelson; Matthew Dolby, wife Jolene, and daughter Lauren; David Nelson, wife Danya, and children Leo, Shasta, and Findley; Martha (Dolby) Wood, husband Shawn, and son Peyton; Amanda Tusher and daughters Grace and Brianna; Uel Steven Tusher; Katherine Tusher; Shawn and Nicholas Newcity, Sister Etta (Wilkson) Bosek, Sister-in-law Shirley Wilkson, Brothers-in-law Bill Adams and Dub King. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nelda Wilkson and brother James Wilkson.

In his early twenties, Sherman was saved and baptized at the First Baptist Church, in Farmington, Mo. Prior to his illness he enjoyed attending services at the Macedonia Baptist Church north of Alton, Mo. Over the years, he was involved in many civic and community organizations and activities.

At the age of 17, Sherm enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific. He was discharged August 13, 1946. After training as a carpenter, he designed and built custom homes in the St. Louis County area until 1968 when the family settled north of Alton and began a cattle and hog operation. In 2005 Sherm and Etta retired to West Plains.

Services will be 1pm Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO, with visitation 6pm-8pm Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Burial will be in the New Bailey Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton, MO.
