Delora Yvonne Vest, age 93, was born in Couch, Missouri on February 6, 1926, the daughter of the late Joel Farris Ford and Winnie Hodak Ford and departed this life on June 2, 2019, at West Plains, Missouri.

She was united in marriage April 19th, 1943 in Alton, Missouri to Wallace Chester Vest, and to this union, two sons and one daughter were born.

Delora was saved at a young age and was a member of Whitten Church for many years. After moving to town she attended Macedonia Baptist Church. She retired from Alton School where she worked as a cook. She loved working on the farm with Wallace, always growing a big garden and canning as much food as they could for all of their family. Having their kids and grandchildren spend time with them was the greatest joy of their life.

Delora is survived by two sons: Chester Vest and wife, Reta, of Granite City, Illinois and Irven Vest and wife, Donna, of Alton, Missouri; and one daughter, Fairy Hensley and husband, Donald, of West Plains, Missouri; five grandchildren: Craig Hensley (Sherri), Sonya Duncan (Allen), Lisa McElmurry (Mike), Brad Vest (Andrea), Rhonda Nolan (Benny); 11 great grandchildren: Alexis, Ryan, Jessie, Morgan, Madi, Carlee, Luke, Jessica, Johnathan, Amanda and Megan; eleven great-great grandchildren; one sister, Olive Bales; one brother, David Ford; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.

Delora is preceded in death by her parents; husband Wallace, who preceded her in death on February 19, 1990; three sisters: Frances Ford, Anna Barton and Martha Warren; and four brothers: Jessie Ford, Daniel Ford, Christopher Ford and Lawrence Ford.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4th at Macedonia Baptist Church, Alton, Missouri. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to services. Burial will take place at Many Springs Cemetery, Alton, Missouri.

Our sympathy in the loss of Delora. She was another great cook at the Alton school. She and Martha had a lot of fun teasing me about the time I picked up a small bowl of horse radish thinking it was a pudding. At the end of my meal I took a big bite of it and announced loudly, "this is not pudding." They had a lot of fun the rest of the year over this. Great ladies they were.

My thoughts and Prayers are with you all. Delora was a wonderful Lady. I have many fond memories of her.She was always smiling. I don't recall ever seeing her without a smile. God has gained another Angel and I'm sure she is rejoicing now with Jesus and all her loved ones. May God wrap his loving arms around you all and give you Peace.
