Anna Jean (Howell) Andrews, 81, died on January 4, 2013 at the Shepard’s View Assisted Living facility in Alton, Missouri where she had received much love and care for over ten years. As she passed from this life, her sister Irene, dear friend Mary Dethrow and son, Steve were by her side. Visitation for friends and family will be held at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton Missouri from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at the Victory Freewill Baptist Church in Alton, Missouri under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Jason Roberts of West Plains, Missouri. Anna Jean was born June 1, 1931 at Alton, Missouri to Posey and Mary Howell who along with two sisters, Wilma Dotson and Aleta Simpson have preceded her in death. Her sister Irene Chronister of Alton, Missouri survives her. Anna Jean is survived by seven children - Connie Vance of Charleston, South Carolina, Mike Ruff of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Steve Ruff of West Plains, Missouri, Susan Thompson of Batesville, Arkansas, Glen Andrews of Greenwood, Missouri, Keith Andrews of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Jackie Wade of Alton, Missouri, fourteen grand children - Michael Leslie Ruff, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Leigh Ann Shelton of Portland Oregon, April Hill-Jones of Hemet, California, Christie Glaze of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Joshua Ruff of Eureka, California, Scott Shelton of Springfield, Missouri, Chad Thompson of Charleston South Carolina, Clay Thompson of West Monroe, Louisiana, Arkansas, Megan Andrews of Greenwood, Missouri, Jordan Andrews of Greenwood, Missouri, Jennifer Andrews of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Eric Andrews of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Johna Wade of Alton, Missouri and Sydney Wade of Alton, Missouri and seven great grand children - Derek Ruff, Brittany Ruff, Jasmine Glaze, Lily Glaze, Violet Glaze, Katherine Hill-Jones and Jamisha Jamison-Ruff. Anna Jean graduated from Alton High School in 1949 and married Roy Carey Ruff the same year. Roy Ruff preceded her in death in in 2000. In 1961, she married Jack Andrews who preceded her in death in 2008. During her life, she spent most of her time as a homemaker and mother but she also worked at the Oregon County Democrat and Larry Wallace’s grocery store in Alton, Mo. She lived in Flint, Michigan, Cleveland, Ohio and Kansas City, Missouri where she worked for Montgomery Ward. Anna Jean also volunteered at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains for several years prior to moving to Shepherd's View. As a young girl growing up, she loved to hunt with her dad, Posey Howell. She loved the outdoors and spent much of her life in the gardening, caring for livestock and taking care of her beautiful flowers. She loved her children dearly and was an expert seamstress making most all of the clothing for her daughters. She taught her children the value of hard work by example and responsibility. She loved to work in ceramic art and her work is a monument to her artistic talent. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and was known by many as “quite a card”. Anna Jean was a member of the United Baptist Church in Alton, Missouri but last attended Victory Freewill Baptist Church in Alton.
